Ugly scenes greeted the final whistle as Valdes was shown a red card for protesting to Miguel Perez about his failure to award Barcelona what looked like a clear penalty in injury time. Madrid took the lead in the sixth minute through Benzema before Messi then equalised for Barca. A lacklustre second-half burst into life following the introduction of Ronaldo for Madrid as he hit the post before Ramos headed the home team back in front.
